Our Story
The Beginnings of Active 20-30
Active 20-30 International traces its roots to two nearly identical young-service movements that began in 1922. Formed in different places but driven by the same idea, young adults wanted a service club where they could actually lead and make an impact, rather than being sidelined in organizations dominated by older members. One began as The Active Club (later Active International) in Aberdeen, Washington, and the other began as the 20-30 Club (later 20-30 International) in Sacramento, California.
As both organizations expanded, they increasingly shared the same mission, values, and style of hands-on service. By the late 1950s, leaders from each side reopened long-standing conversations about unifying into one stronger organization. In 1960, both groups voted to merge, and on August 1, 1960, Active International and 20-30 International became Active 20-30 International, combining traditions, leadership, and service under one banner focused on improving life for underserved children and communities.
From there, chapters across the U.S. and Canada carried the mission forward locally with each shaped by the needs of its own community. In Redding, members embraced that same spirit of service and leadership, building a chapter dedicated to supporting children and families in the North State.
The Active 20-30 Club of Redding #143: Rechartered in 2006
In 2006, the Active 20-30 Club of Redding was rechartered as Chapter #143, marking a renewed commitment to service, leadership, and community impact. This rechartering represented more than a restart, it was a recommitment to the club’s core purpose of directly helping children and families in the Redding area through hands-on projects and local fundraising.
Since then, the club has grown into a visible and trusted community presence. Members have organized and supported a wide range of initiatives, from providing school supplies and holiday gifts to organizing community events and volunteer clean-ups. The focus has always remained local, ensuring that time, energy, and resources directly benefit children right here in Redding and the surrounding area.
The modern era of the club has also emphasized collaboration, working alongside schools, nonprofits, local businesses, and volunteers to maximize impact. Friendships formed through service have strengthened the club internally, while consistent results have strengthened its reputation externally. Through steady leadership and active participation, the Active 20-30 Club of Redding #143 has continued to build momentum year after year.
Our Present and Our Future
Today, the Active 20-30 Club of Redding #143 is focused on creating real, local impact through signature community events and hands-on service. From bringing the community together through the Redding Christmas Parade to getting people moving for a cause with the Nash Ranch Mud Run, our mission stays the same: serve, lead, and improve the lives of children and families in our region. Looking ahead, we’re committed to growing participation, welcoming new members, and expanding the ways we show up for Redding with stronger partnerships, a bigger impact, and the same heart behind the work.
